Wix form not working? Find the step that fails
Reviewed · White Dot
"The form isn't working" usually means one of four things went wrong. Send one test entry, note where it stops, and go to that section. Use a name you'll recognize, such as "Form test 24 Oct".
- You can't type in the form, or the submit button does nothing.
- The form says it was sent, but the entry isn't in your submissions.
- The entry is saved, but no notification email reaches you.
- The email arrives, but details are missing or it goes to the wrong person.
1. Visitors can't fill in the form or submit it
- Another element sits on top of the form. In the editor, check for a box, image or strip placed over the fields. Wix lists overlapping elements as the first cause.
- It works on a computer but not on a phone. Open the mobile editor and check the same thing there, since the mobile layout can place elements differently.
- Velo elements were added to the form. Wix says new fields should be added through the form's own settings, not as separate input elements.
2. The entry isn't in your submissions
- Check the spam tab of your form submissions. Entries the spam filter holds don't trigger a notification email either.
- On an old Wix form, the submissions table only shows entries collected after the table was created. Earlier entries won't appear there.
- If the form is built from input elements connected to a CMS collection, check that each element is connected to the right dataset and field, and that the collection lets visitors add content. Without that permission, nothing is saved.
3. The entry is saved, but no email arrives
This is the most common case. Work through our checklist for missing notification emails. In short:
- Open the form's automation and check the recipient. Changing your Wix account email doesn't update it.
- Check the automation is active and look at its activity log. "No runs yet" means it never ran, so no email was sent.
- If the log says the email was sent, the problem is delivery. Check your spam folder, and if the sender and recipient are the same address, change the recipient. Wix notes some email providers treat those messages as spam.
4. The email arrives, but it's wrong
- It only says you have a new message: add the form fields to the email.
- It goes to the old address: change who gets the notification.
- Your customer doesn't get their confirmation: check the confirmation automation.
Test again
After a change, send the same kind of labeled test from a computer and from a phone. Check your submissions, your inbox and the automation's activity log for that time. If all three show the test, the form works end to end.
